Bob McLendon ’70 of Hendersonville, North Carolina, has strong connections to LaGrange College.
“LC not only gave me a great education, but it gave me my first job after college as an admissions counselor,” he said. “That first job launched a lifelong career in higher education administration.”
He is especially proud of being the charter president of Delta Tau Delta fraternity his senior year.
“Leading a local fraternity to a national chapter taught me many leadership skills that I have needed and used throughout my career.”
He is currently vice president of the National Research Center for Colleges and Universities.
“For the last 11 years in this position, I have worked with hundreds of colleges across the country, primarily focusing on enrollment growth and strategy.”
Deb Hall, LC’s Vice President for Finance and Operations, has known McLendon for many years.
“I first met him when I went to Brevard College as controller in 1995,” she said. “We worked together on admissions and financial aid and have stayed in touch.”
The college has been working with NRCCUA for many years, she said. When the position of Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Experience came open, Hall said she knew the perfect person to help during the transition.
“After talking to President (Susanna) Baxter, I called Bob to see if he could help us while we conducted our job search,” Hall said. “He is very well known in the higher education field. He knows his stuff as well as anyone I know.”
McLendon said he was thrilled when Hall reached out.
“I moved from an Admissions Counselor at LC to positions of senior vice president for administration, and I owe this all to LC.”
He has been consulting with the administration and making recommendations on how to increase enrollment using social media, data-driven enrollment strategy, redefining admissions markets and research and developing communications plans for prospective students, redefining admissions markets, President Baxter said she in grateful for McLendon’s input.
“Bob volunteered his services to evaluate the enrollment function of the college,” she said. “He will continue to provide feedback as our new VP Dr. John Head gets settled.”
McLendon said he knows Head and is familiar with his work.
“He is a great choice to lead Admissions at LC and I am convinced he will help the college grow enrollment with students who will be a good match for LaGrange College.”
